NJASTO began as a grassroots organization approximately 15 years ago and has had a combination of elected and appointed leadership teams over the years. The leadership team facilitates all aspects of group activities and efforts, including planning and hosting meetings, conducting public outreach and member recruitment, and furthering the organization's vision and goals.

NJASTO is currently a recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit educational association incorporated in the State of New Jersey, with a formal leadership team consisting of an elected President and Vice President, along with appointed officers: Treasurer, Secretary, and various Committee Chairs.

Adrian J. Cepero

Nov 2022-Present

Adrian Cepero is an innovative EdTech leader with over a decade of experience transforming school districts through technology. As the Executive Director of Technology for Hackensack, New Jersey, Adrian has spearheaded district-wide initiatives like the Chromebook 1:1 program and developed cutting-edge cybersecurity and data privacy programs. His work focuses on creating equitable, secure learning environments that ensure all students have access to the tools they need for success.

Adrian’s journey in educational technology is driven by a deep passion for innovation and a commitment to making a lasting impact. From modernizing infrastructure to securing grants for sustainable improvements, he is dedicated to leveraging technology to bridge gaps in education and improve outcomes for students and staff alike.

Vice President

Tamer Mamkej

Nov 2022 - Present

Tamer Mamkej is the current Technology Director for Hawthorne Public Schools, bringing 17 years of extensive experience in the educational technology sector. Over his career, Tamer has worked with a diverse array of schools, enhancing their technological infrastructures and advancing their educational capabilities.

He holds a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science from William Paterson University and a Master's degree in Educational Technology from Ramapo College of New Jersey. These academic achievements have equipped him with a robust foundation in both technical expertise and educational methodologies.

Frank Calero

August 2023 - Present

Frank Calero is the Director of Technology for the Bogota School District, where he has led IT strategy, infrastructure, and budgeting for over five years. His expertise spans across various areas, including network management, system administration, and technology planning. Prior to his current role, Frank held positions such as Senior Network and Systems Manager at Far Hills Country Day School and Technology Administrator at MRHS. 

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Montclair State University and is certified in G Suite Administration and as a Google Certified Educator.

Secretary

Mohammed Saleh

August 2023 - Present

Mohammed Saleh is the Associate Chief Technology and Management Information Systems Officer at Paterson Public Schools, with extensive experience in IT strategy, educational technology, and infrastructure management. With a proven history in leadership roles across several school districts, Mohammed has a strong focus on team building and optimizing IT operations to support educational success. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems from the New Jersey Institute of Technology and is certified in cybersecurity, networking, and G Suite administration.

Peter Cook

Infrastructure Chair

Peter Cook began his career in special education before transitioning to technology education. With a bachelor’s degree in Systems and Network Administration and a master’s in Educational Leadership, he has held key roles including Lead Teacher and Technology Coordinator at Union County T.E.A.M.S. Charter School and Supervisor of Instructional Technology for Pequannock Township School District.


Now serving as Director of Technology and Innovation for Paramus Public Schools, Peter has led initiatives like the district’s 1:1 device program and major network upgrades. He is passionate about using technology, including AI, to improve both operational efficiency and educational outcomes.

Tracy Leigh

Instructional Technology Chair

Tracy Leigh has over 20 years of experience in public education, beginning as an elementary and middle school teacher before transitioning to teaching technology to adults and working as a technology consultant. She has served in various leadership roles, including 11 years at Wayne Township Public Schools and is now the Director of Technology at Pascack Valley Regional High School District.


Tracy holds an M.A. in education and a B.S. in elementary education and psychology from Seton Hall University, along with Supervisor and Principal certificates. Outside of work, she enjoys being PTA President, spending time with her family, and caring for her two puppies, Delilah and Dwight.

Yanal Saleh

Vendor Partnerships Chair

Yanal Saleh is a seasoned technology leader with nearly 20 years of experience in education, currently serving as the Director of Technology for Elmwood Park Public Schools. His focus on innovative solutions has enhanced productivity and educational outcomes across the district. Yanal has successfully led major projects, including the district’s 1:1 program and network security upgrades, while fostering strong relationships with vendors and stakeholders.


In his free time, Yanal enjoys woodworking and 3D printing, and values quality time with his wife and two sons. He also contributes to the leadership team at NJASTO.

Michael Dougherty

Mentorships Chair

Michael Dougherty joined the West Morris Regional High School District as District Technology Coordinator in July 2024, bringing extensive experience from his prior role as Technology Director at the Chester School District. 


Michael holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from Fairfield University, a Master of Science in Information Systems from NJIT, and is currently pursuing a Master of Educational Technology from Wilson College. A passionate advocate for mentorship, he emphasizes the importance of fostering relationships and providing guidance to empower educators and students alike. By equipping teachers with innovative tools and resources, Michael aims to create a safe, dynamic, and engaging learning environment that elevates the educational experience for all.
